Water World

Have you ever seen something that looked human dance inside a gyser of water? It's beautiful. Majestic even. The sight of it just takes your breath away, and you don't want to stop watching. But sometimes.......you just have to wake up.

Korben turned over in his bed, rudely woken up by a skritting noise. It didn't take a genius to figure out what it was. "Dammit, cat!" he hissed and picked something up off the floor and tossed it at the source, he missed and it was followed by his cat's obnoxious meowing. Korben threw the covers off and scooped her up. "You want out? Be my guest," he opened the door, dropped her on the porch and shut the door. 'Stupid cat. Last thing I want to wake up to is her clawing my carpet up,' he tought and climbed back into bed. He had been having one of the best dreams and tried to fall back asleep to try and see it again. All he succeded in doing was laying in bed with his eyes closed for three hours. He was wide awake at this point and figured he might as well start his day. He got dressed, went to the kitchen and opened the fridge. He grabed a plate of leftover spanish carp, nuked it in the microwave and drowned it in tartar sauce. The phone rang and he picked it up. "Hello?" he said. "Hey, Korben, it's me," Korben's father was on the other end. "Oh, hey dad. What do need?" he said. "I have a charter running today, I need you to watch the store for me. Can you do that?" Korben's father asked. "Hm? Sure, I'll be right over," Korben said. 'That's right I forgot. Tourist season,' Korben thought.

Later that day, Korben was sitting behind the counter of his dad's surf/diving shop and souvineir stand. The door chie jingled and he put the magazine he was reading down. "Hello, can I help you?" he asked.

A girl stepped inside the shop "I'm just looking around...I moved in next door" she said shyly and she began to check out the products.

She wore a pair of black rimmed glasses, through the glasses you could see a pair of beautiful Cobalt blue eyes, Her hair was a light brown and went down to her lower back and it was wavy, her hair framed her oval shaped face and contrasted perfectly with her pale complexion, She wore a black summer dress which fell just above her knee's, on her feet were a pair of Black Mary Jane's and in her hair was a black headband.

She sighed and turned to the person manning the counter and asked "um...can you actually help me with something?" she Picked up two different tubs of Board wax and brought them over to him "Which one of these is the best Wax to use on a surfboard?" She smiles at him shyly as she asked him the question

"Actually, I think you may need to use tropical wax," Korben said and put a block of tropical wax on the counter. "The water around here tends to be warm all year long," he said. "You say you moved here? Where did you move from?" he asked.

"I moved here from England West yorkshire" she said smiling at him if you listened carefully though you could hear an Irish lilt to her accent

"Jolly ol' England, eh?" Korben said in a convincing cockney accent. "I didn't really peg english people to be surfers," he said in his regular voice. The store phone rang and Korben answered it. "Hello? No, Johnny, dad's on a charter, I'm looking after the store. No why would I tell you that? No, Johnny, you can't help. Wh- because I wouldn't expect you to zip your pants up without getting your dick caught, so why the hell would I expect you to do anything right. Alright bye, and don't burn the house down!" Korben hung up. "Sorry you had to hear that, little brother," he said.

"...uhh o...okay..." she said uneasily "Oh....i never told you my name did i?" she sighs "my Name is Leanne Quillan" she said holding out her hand to shake his

"Korben Dallas," he said as he took her hand and shook it. The door chime rang again. "Hey! Jake!" A burly, African-American man came in. "I need some new line, my old one's just not..." he stopped talking after catching sight of Korben. "Hey! Korben my man!" he said with a smile and Korben smiled back. "Artie! How's biz?" he said. "I needed some new fishing line, my old one's breaking too easily," he said. he spotted Leanne. "Hello, never seen you before, you new around here?" he asked. "She is," Korben said. "Oh, right intro. Artie, this is Leanne. Leanne, this is Arthur Cheney, aka, 'Big Artie'," Korben said. "Pleased to meet you," Artie said pleasently.

"Hello nice to meet you Artie" Leanne said with a smile "I moved from West yorkshire in england" She said simply as a way of explination and her grin widened

"Once again, nice to meet you, too," Artie said. He turned to Korben. "Anyway, you got any newer fishing line in? My old line just isn't what it used to be," Artie said. "Oh, we got some of the high-quality line in the back row," he said and pointed Artie in the right direction. A jeep wrangler pulled into the parking lot. "Oh, dad's back," Korben said.

Leanne stood at the counter and she suddenly asked "Do you have any placements open here Korben?" she smiled "Or should i ask your father?"

"Oh, you'd kind'a have to ask my dad, he owns the place," Korben said and the door opened. A middle-aged man with tanned skin came in carrying diving gear. "Hey Artie," he said and placed his diving gear by the door. "Hey there, Jake," Artie said and shook his hane. The man, Jake, looked over to Korben. "Hey, Korben? Graves asked me to tell you he wants you to check the tether out on to bouey in the harbor later today," he said.

"Okay i'l do that then" She smiles at the hopeful prospect of getting a job so soon, it would make her life so much more easier with a steady job and wage coming through "So...where is you're father may i ask?" she tilted her head slightly

"Oh here he comes through the.....door.....now...." he suddenly looked worried. A man opened the door rather roughly and flung his bag into the corner. "THAT SON OF A BITCH!" he shouted. "Uh...dad?" Korben asked cautiously. "Dawson Graves just impounded my boat! Says it needed to be inspected and I just inspected the damn thing last week!" Korben's father souted. Artie shook his head. "Graves, man. He thinks as long as his name is on the port city, he owns it," he said.

"A...Ah...." She looked scared her eyes widened a fraction at the sudden violence and she stood up bolt straight

"Who's this?!" Korben's father demanded. "Dad, relax...this is Leanne Quillan, she's not here to cause problems," Korben said. "Right....sorry, I'm just alittle high-strung right now," Korben's father said.
