The Little Bird landed on a makeshift landing pad. Zero and the pilot hopped out and went straight to a tent. There were several maps and radios and there wereteo men dress in US Army BDA's (Battle Dress Uniform) looking over several maps. "Zero, Mareu," one of them said with a greeting salute. "Lieutenant Winters," Zero saluted back. "Mareu, did you find anything on your patrol?" Winters asked. "As a matter of fact, I did, sir," Mareu pulled a map toward himself. "There's a hospital over here, we can send in a team to retrieve any supplies that might be inside. Over here, there's a estate with a manor town in it, very strange, though," Mareu said. "How strange?" Zero asked. "The lights were on," Mareu said. "Possible nest?" Winters asked. "We'll find out in the morning," Zero said. "Get a team together, tell them to rally at the mess at 0600," Zero said. and left the tent.

Sarah looked around herself and figured that now was the time to start asking questions. "How did this all get started?" She asked the one called PJ.

"I'll see you again Zero," the female vampire said as Zero got into the bird. She watched as they took off without trying to take a ride with them. She rather liked the ground.

The female smiled and looked at him. She'd only left her nest a few weeks prior to this because she didn't like the 'priority to feed' going to the ones in charge. Once the humans started to dwindle, the vampires started taking certain vampires and basically giving them the right to feed when they wanted; the rest had to wait, sometimes for even a week before going back out.

She let out a small laugh and shook her head. "I'm sure I would have been fine without you, but I'll go with you. I suppose there's strength in numbers. Besides, there's plenty of them for the both of us. I've been following this group for a few days now. They're fairly well off, and pretty well armed too. It might be a challenge."

"You mean the convoy? Zero started it. He gathered some survivors, kept them safe, eventually taught themn how to fight," PJ said. "Oh, you're bleeding by the way. Snips should take a look at you, she's over by that ambulance over there," PJ pointed to an ambulance.

"Well, if there's anything I love it's a challenge." The male said, raising an eyebrow and smirking. "And it looks as if you're going to be a challenge as well." He said under his breath.
He moved closer and offered his hand, a nostalgic gesture that remained from his human days. "Corvin." He said, "Charmed, I'm sure. What brings you to this desert? Rather strange for a lovely lady like you to be out here don't you think?" He said, unabashed.

Sarah frowned and looked down. She was indeed bleeding.
She stared at the red fluid for a few moments, almost getting lost in the thick red color of the liquid. Then she blinked and smiled slightly, allowing PJ to lead her to the ambulance.
"That's..." Sarah began, but she didn't know how to finish her sentence. Amazing? Not quite. Honorable? True, but it didn't sound right. However by this time, it would be akward to finish her sentence anyway, so she just let it stay unfinished.
Instead, she asked another question. "Why do you all have nicknames?" She asked, her eyes ever moving around the convoy and it's people.

"Not all of us do. PJ is just my initials, Snips is pretty much the convoy's medic, she got her name because she's good with a pair of scissors. And Zero, well, that actually IS his name," PJ said.

Sarah raised an eyebrow. "Huh. Zero's a pretty strange name if you ask me." She said, under her breath.
"What do you guys do here?" She asked, in a normal voice.

The female smiled. She'd lost a lot of her humanitarian nothings a long time ago, or so it was to her. She shook his hand awkwardly, and said, "Wonderful to meet you Corvin." She hadn't actually meant that, but why not at least act nice? "I'm a vampire, how odd is it to see one of us in a desert in the first place? Most would die out here. I'm Sonya, by the way."

"Well, we just go through the desert trying to get by day by day," PJ said. "If we find any stragglers, if they're willing, we take them in," he finished.

On the change from afternoon into the evening, when the sun had sunk into the horizon, a group stood in the middle of what used to be a street; covered in sand. They were infront of a building, and the lights were on all the time during the night. It did attract the odd zombie and vampire, but this group was made of two sides. Humans and vampires. They had found a way to co-exist together, and somehow it had worked for over six months.

The group was of a human and five vampires. The deal in this group was that the humans protected the vampires during the day, and the vampires protected the humans in the night. The reason the light was on, was in case a vampire or zombie that wasn't part of the nest managed to get past the other vampires. Now was the time that the two parties switched places; the vampires came out into the dark, and the humans retreated into the building for the night. they had a flawless system, so it seemed.

"The blood you have managed to supply us with isn't going to sustain us much longer. We need something that isn't synthetic, doctor. It even tastes fake now. We need something that you can't make."

"I'm working on a new type of synthetic blood for you, it's just taking me a little longer than expected. I'm sorry but you'll have to hold out for at least another two weeks. I'm sorry," the doctor said and took a deep breath. "I just don't know what it's missing."

"Real blood, perhaps. Have you ever tasted your own, when you cut yourself, maybe? Like a paper cut that bled and you had nothing with you at the time that would make the flow stop, and so you sucked the blood from your finger?" The doctor shook her head. "I'd try it, and then the synthetic blood. You will find a difference." The doctor nodded and walked away from them and into the basement where the lab had been set up.

A different person had gone outside not a moment later, and walked to the group. She smiled at one of the vampires and hugged the one that had spoken to the doctor. "Please be careful," she whispered to him and the vampire smiled back at her. "Promise me."

"You know I always am," he said back to her, giving her a hug, lifting her up and spinning her around then stopped. He kissed her passionately on the lips, gripping her face to keep it to his. Once he let her go, they both smiled and touched her cheek. "Get some sleep. I'll be fine, just like any other night. You shouldn't worry about me." The girl nodded and turned back around, walking back into the building. She stopped before closing the door and looked out at them again. The vampire she'd kissed waved her in, and she closed the door.

"So there was a hellion flying around earlier. While everyone was inside not too long ago. I think they might be coming here."

"Well, tell everyone to be on the look out, and go along with normal procedures when we have a breach of our perimeter. We have to stall them and see what they want before we just let them in. The usual, you know? Oh, and make sure my love stays in the house this time. She just got in the way before." One of the vampires nodded and stood by the door. The rest got in their positions along with the others that weren't standing with the group.

Night turned to day, Zero gathered a four-man unit (five, including himself) and left for the house in. The humvee they were in came up to the house and stopped. Zero got out along with two others, a man dressed in traditonal desert-ware, and the other was dressed almost the same except he was wearing a skull-imprinted ski mask and red tinted sunglasses. "Okay, Mareu said this place looked suspicious, so we need to check it out. Roach, Ghost, and myself'll be cheking every space of this house, and we're gonna be radioing in every ten minutes, if we're overdue to check in, something's wrong," Zero said to the other two in the humvee. He, Ghost and Roach approached the door. Before Zero could reach for the handle, it was already turning. The door started to open.

"No, shush Victoria, and no one is out there!" A girl said with a little laugh before she opened the door. "I didn't even hear a-" She opened the door and looked at Zero with shock and surprise on her face. "-car." She squeeked slammed the door. Her high heels clicked on the floor and as she called for someone in a deep russian accent. "PYOTR!!!"

"Visitors?" A seductive voice asked. Even from behind the door she seemed to be smiling. "Well invite them in, April. Don't be rude."

"Ghost," Zero said and Ghost got the message. "Got it, sir," Ghost had a Cockney-English accent. Ghost pulled a shotgun off his back, shot the hinges off the door and kicked it down. Zero and Roach entered with their weapons raised followed by Ghost.

April let out a scream and two men rounded the corner carrying hand guns, and armed to the teeth with knives. The only other female in the room was draped causually over the antique couch and she sprung up, growling and snarling.

"Pyotr! Fyodor! I didn't do anything! They just came in!" April held her hands on her head, and Victoria moved infront of her.

"No Victoria, get away from here," one of the men said. Both were russian, as one could tell by their names. they both looked like professionals, and were suited up like cops. "What do you want with us? We did you no harm," the one on the right said, the other stayed silent. Victoria growled again and backed away, first behind the couch, and April moved infront of her to sheild her from any harm. They seemed to be acting like the humans were the proection, when they could usually deal with things on their own.

"What's going on?" a female in a white lab coat came down a hall in rush. No inhuman speed, just like a regular human. "Oh my," she said and put a clip board behind her back and sort of stood there, not sure what to do or where to go. "Are guns really necessary?" she whispered to the two russians. They neither moved nor made a reply. They simply stared at the two people standing at the door with the men's guns trained on them.

Zero pointed an MP5 at the two holding the handguns. "Drop your weapons!" Zero said. They did nothing. "Did you not hear?! Drop your bloody weapons now!" Ghost aimed his shotgun at the two while Roach kept his own weapon trained on the others.
