Vahn stood at the hillcrest overlooking the extent of the home he had made for himself, a small building tucked into the valley of the series of hills he now topped. This place had been his and only his for what seemed like a lifetime now but he was turning his back on it. It felt wrong to be leaving but Vahn had known it was the inevitable outcome even when he had laid down the first logs of his house. This place was peaceful, quiet, and serene. This was exactly what was wrong however as it clashed with all the Vahn had known and experienced throughout the rest of his life. That inconsistency couldn't exist forever. Still, he would hold onto these memories of isolation with fondness, as he knew what his return to society meant a return to fighting. This time he hoped that the wisdom he had garnered during his isolation had prepared him to face the challenges he would find. 'Its finally time' Vahn thought as he turned his back to his home and left to face the world.
While he had been almost completely cut off from the world in his valley he had kept tabs on the area through his monthly visits to the nearby villages. The information-gathering trips were also supplemented by his crystals. These crystals were attuned to a type of power that was inherent in him and those like him and would activate once the set proximity had been breached. It was two days ago since the three of the five crystals had activated. Da'hara was had once again returned to these lands and Vahn was going to see why.

After a week or so of being on the road, Vahn finally took a room at a roadside tavern for a refreshment and information gathering. By now he was well beyond the reach of the information that had been within his reach from the valley. While no one here would likely have anything on his real mission there was still plenty to be aware of. Have there been any bandits in the area? Rogue demons that were prowling for easy prey? Many things could throw a wrench into his travels and any heads up if possible was always wise. Unfortunately, the locals here had been rather tight lipped which meant either they really didn't trust travelers such as him or something else was going on. No matter the cause he had ended up eating at a booth alone when the group of mercenaries had shown up.
While the appearance of this mercenary group might have increased his chances of getting some information he doubted that the situation would end like that. Mercenaries with little to no organization like this one often toed the line between mercenaries and bandits when they couldn't find work. This group looked like it had fallen on hard times based off their worn clothing and darkened demeanors. The presumable leader of the group stepped up to the tavern own who was working behind the bar. After a quick conversation which Vahn couldn't overhear the merc leader turned to the room of roughly a dozen people that currently occupied the tavern.
"It appears that this tavern isn't currently looking for protection" the leader began in a loud and condescending voice. "This man doesn't care what happens to his patrons."
Vahn continued to eat his lunch in quiet, hoping that the mercenaries would leave after the rebuff from the owner. The world apparently was trying to welcome him back in its usual fashion however. Vahn could hear the boots of the man coming in his direction and since he was the only one on this side of the establishment it was fairly obvious he wasn't going to get out of this one that easy.
"So how do you feel stranger? Feel like you don't need protection?" the mercenary leader slammed the point of a knife into the wood of the table in front of Vahn. Vahn winched at the mistreatment of even this basic weapon. Turning to face the leader Vahn put on a nervous smile and quickly tried to find a way to avoid the fight that every minute seemed more and more likely.
"I'm always looking for more protection." Vahn began as he reached down to lay his hand on the hilt of his sword, which was sitting in its scabbard on the bench beside him, "However since I don't have much money this is the best I can afford." Subtle though it was it was a fairly clear statement. Leave him alone or he would have to defend himself. Dressed as he was in his usual green shirt, brown pants, and overall simple attire he might not look threatening enough for the leader to back down.
The room had was very quiet all of the sudden as Vahn's suggested threat sunk into both the tavern goes and mercs alike. Now would the leader back down or rise to the challenge?
OOC: Open to anyone, this is set in the inuyasha world but I don't currently have plans on using any of the inuyasha main characters. Mainly this story is going to focus on Vahn investigating the appearance of his fellow country men and the story will unfold from there. I'll be adding posts to this even if no one joins so if you don't feel like its a good spot to jump in then you can wait for the next post
