Gender
Male
Race
Human/Tengu
Age
Personality
Sarubo is very lighthearted and mischevious. He loves riddles and games, dancing, and loves playing pranks on the unsuspecting. He tends to be very naive and gullable, and very childlike. He doesn't like being caught up in serious or dangerous situations. Mostly he's just out to have fun and spread merriment where he can.
Appearance
He appears as a very young boy, possibly in his early teens. Very petite. He's just over 5', with a very slender and petite figure. He has a smooth, olive complexion and stark white, snowy hair, with great big silver eyes. He has very angular features, such as long pointed ears, a somewhat sharply shaped nose and triangular face shape.
Clothing/Armor
He wears black hakama pants and a white kimono top with a long, lavender colored rope tied around his waist, the loose tasseled ends hanging down over his left side.
History
Sarubo's life did not begin as a Tengu, but as a mere human child named Rokuro. He was born into a very poor, lower class family and was the youngest of five. After their father died, he would stay home to help his sister look after their mother who had fallen ill from grief, while his three older brothers went off to war.
Even in life Rokuro was a very curious and very mischievous child. One day he would venture up the mountain-side that overlooked his village, carrying nothing more than a special crook and a sack to gather rare herbs with that he'd hoped would help his mother. Eventually he would happen upon a group of strange, birdlike men, dancing and singing to strange music he had never heard before, all surrounded by what appeared to be shapeless souls that also seemed to to dance to the music. Intrigued, the boy would watch for awhile and then eventually join them.
Amused by the boy, the Tengu as they would identify themselves, offered to play a special game of riddles with him, and if he should best them, they would bestow a very special gift upon him. Of course being very clever himself, and enjoying games and riddles very much so, it was an easy task for the boy. Impressed with him the Tengu gave him a rather abundant supply of the herb he was looking for, bowed to him and then vanished from the mountainside.
Later that week Rokuro's village would be raided, and with no men to protect it, many lives would be lost, including those of Rokuro and his mother and sister. After the funeral, after night had fallen and the full moon had risen high, the Tengu would appear in the temple and surround the boy, dancing their strange dance and playing their strange music. As the shapeless spirits returned to caress and surround the boy, the Tengu would begin to fan him, chanting and singing until suddenly the bed of flowers he had been rested upon ignited into bright, purple flames, and engulfed him.
Rokuro's jet black hair would become stark white like the moon that shown in on him, color would return to his skin and he would suddenly awaken, breathing deeply and inhaling all of the strange spiritual fire that surrounded him. In his awakening the boy would only remember his life before as a dream, but he would know the faces of the Tengu that danced around him.
"...Sarubo..." They sang, bestowing him with the name of Monkey-Boy(Or Born) inspired by how he'd danced and played and all of his curiosity. The Tengu would return to him his staff and the spirits would dance around him excitedly, and excited himself, Sarubo would begin to dance with them until they vanished like they had on the mountainside. He would look back to see that one of the village maidens had happened upon the scene and appeared very frightened and confused. The boy would simply laugh and then leap through an open window, being carried off through the night on a heavy gust of wind and disappearing from the village forever.
