So I was watching Inuyasha again and noticed in one episode involving the Band of Seven, the one where Jakotsu is introduced, one peice of information is given that firmly sets the time setting of Inuyasha. To start when the Band is introduced it is mentioned they had died fifteen years previously, so we know that between the Band of Seven being killed and resurected there is a maximum of fifteen years difference. Now when Jakotsu was introduced he fought some samurai who had matchlock rifles, Jakotsu was unfamiliar with them and the lord/general stated anyone who had been dead for the last decade would not be aware of such weapons so we can conclude that inuyasha takes plac sometime within 10-15 years of the introduction of the matchlock rifle to japan. The rifle was introduced in 1543, therefore inuyasha must take place sometime between 1553 to 1558, 53 assuming that it had been exactly a decade since the introduction of rifles, 58 assuming rifles were introduced the day after the band was killed for the first time, and from there all other events can be placed with an accuracy of +/- 2.5 years assuming we average the difference and place inuyasha in the year 1556. AAlthough this does leave a minor discrepency since it's stated that kagome travels 500 years between her time and inuyashas time, which would mean she is from 2056? Anyway given that info you can place any of the events that occured in the fuedal era, or I can and I might and make an actual litttle timeline thingy.
Summary: Inuyasha takes place roughly in the year 1556
