Name: Tetsuya Kenshi
Alias/Nicknames: Ken, Teddie
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Age: Mid 20s
Personality: Tetsuya is an intelligent hero, often drawing himself into duels that interest him rather than the ones he's assigned to do. He isn't fond of listening to orders, even though he is trying to follow in his father's footsteps as Leader of the Inner Guard to the Shogunate. Sometimes he may seem smug at times, but he's generally a pleasant person to be around.
Tetsuya will find himself "bored" or uninterested in a lot of things. He finds life monotonous and instantly falls asleep on the spot. This is the biggest reason why people avoid talking to him--they're afraid to get their feelings hurt by Tetsuya's opinion of them. Tetsuya doesn't mind being the lone samurai, since he will usually wander off to explore places. Even on a "mission," Tetsuya will find time to nap, or venture unknown territory.
When people approach him, Tetsuya will either a) Fall asleep b) Snore c) Walk off d) Nod like he pretends to care or e) Give advice by relating to life and how grand it is. Even though Tetsuya doesn't find much excitement in life, he still enjoys it. The thrill of nature is what keeps him going. And maybe a woman or two that will be desperate to seek his attention.
Appearance: Tetsuya has the craziest and messiest hair ever. Because it is so difficult to tame, he simply puts it up and let his hair do whatever it feels like. With piercing black eyes, a tanned complexion, and soft, defined features, it's no wonder why women would want his attention!
Clothing/Armor: Tetsuya has a very bland choice of wardrobe--it's all blue and black. He sports a dark blue kimono top, with deep blue samurai pants and a light blue jacket with green string hanging from it. He always wears navy blue gloves, white socks, and straw sandals.
Tetsuya occasionally wears a small piece of black and green armor to cover his abdominal area. Other than that, he relies on his katana to protect him.
History: As a child, Tetsuya had a lot of pressure on him. His father was the leader of the Inner Guard to the Shogunate, and rarely came home. Whenever he visited, he would kiss his mother, and then begin to train Tetsuya. He never said it, but Tetsuya knew: He had to become the next legendary swordsman. Someone who'd walk right into a village and everyone would know that he's Tetsuya Kenshi.
When Tetsuya woke up from an intense session with his father, he wasn't anywhere to be found. When he asked his mother where he went, she could only guess that he left for a secret mission. "He would only leave without a goodbye if he has one of those." So, Tetsuya waited for him to come by again. He was already used to this--His dad being too busy to stay for more than a couple of weeks. Six months since that day, Tetsuya and his mother received news that the legendary swordsman was killed brutally by a man named Naruku. They had received his sword, Oriki, and a bandanna that he wore to every battle, by some messenger.
Anguished by this, Tetsuya's mother threatened to kill herself. Tetsuya was only around fifteen years old, but he was well aware that his mother would never get over the death of her husband. Sticking to her for over a year, his mother seemed to have gotten over her husband's death. "This was the day that we heard of the tragic news...but don't worry, I've gotten over it. Thank you for staying with me, Tetsuya. I think you deserve a little something for yourself--" With 500 yen in his hands, Tetsuya was unsure what to do.
While taking care of his mother, he had left her alone for one minute to go to the washroom. When he finished, he saw his mother screaming at a girl. It was something about being pushed, and how she was a thief...? Tetsuya never asked what had happened, but knew that his mother was not ready to be around strangers. Apologizing to the girl, named Keiko, he and her have been meeting late at night while his mother was asleep.
Reminiscing on the special moments Keiko and Tetsuya shared together, he thought intently about what to get her with his money. Trusting that his mother could be left alone for a few hours, Tetsuya thanked her and ran off to the market. Returning an hour later, he saw pieces of paper aligned carefully to the backyard. Following the papers, he read "I'll be with him soon, don't worry," repeatedly until there were no more papers. Looking up, he saw his mother's body hanging from a tree branch.
Nearly fainting and dropping his gift to Keiko, Tetsuya ran inside the house and quietly screamed to himself. Crying himself to sleep, and locking himself in his room, Tetsuya was isolated from everyone in the village. A few days of lonely pondering, Tetsuya decided to bury his mother's body and clean up the papers. For weeks, Tetsuya isolated himself from the village until he could no longer go without food and water (and Keiko). Once leaving outside, the same messenger that gave him the tragic news of his father came by his house. Tetsuya received orders to infiltrate Naruku's castle and destroy him.
Knowing that he could avenge his father brought his spirits back. Tetsuya decided to leave immediately and never return to his village. Collecting his father's belongings, and praying to his mother, he left without another word. On the same day, Keiko had tried to contact him, but the villagers had told him of the news. He had left without a word, but one of his neighbors heard the conversation between the messenger and Tetsuya. Saddened that she didn't receive a goodbye, she sneaked into the house and found a note in the middle of the room.
It was a note from Tetsuya. Very brief, but very valuable to Keiko. He mentioned about the gift he bought her and where he had put it. Unwrapping it, she saw a small doll that resembled Tetsuya. It was poorly made, but it was clear to her that Tetsuya's heart went into making it. Smiling, she left the house and moved on with her life. Exactly the same thing Tetsuya had done before he stepped out of the village. Since his departure, Tetsuya learned so much about Japan. He is searching for Naruku, with two other Shogunates that would follow him no matter what.
Likes: The sound of silence, earth, nature, sun, interesting people, sleep
Dislikes: Vulgar noises, someone waking him up, thunder
Allies: Shogunate, mother
Enemies: People who kill without remorse or reason
Occupation: Young Leader of the Inner Guard of the Shogunate
Weapons: His father's sword--Oriki, a blue katana that deals high damage. Although his blade is slower than most weapons, evasion and counter-attacks can be easily executed.
Abilities: Uses a more defensive style in fighting.
Water Attack: Tetsuya can deal damage when manipulating water around him. He doesn't control water, but is able to add a sort of water element to his attacks.
Gravitation: Tetsuya's presence slightly increases gravity for his opponents while gravity slightly decreases for him. This can be a downfall when jumping, because he wouldn't fall down quick enough.
